About Me

Hi, my name is Eric Kufrin.

I have been interested in the outdoors since a very early age. Camping and spending time in the woods was my favorite thing to do as a Scout.

I also became very interested in computers at an early age. I am old enough to know what loading programs in DOS was like and using Windows 3.1 to play Simcity 1.0. In 7th grade I earned the “Computers Medal” during our graduation. I knew early on that I wanted to have a career in computers and during high school I obtained my Microsoft MCSE in Windows NT 4.0. I then went immediately into the workforce and have been a full time “IT Guy” since 2001. My current day-job is as a Product Manager for an Identity Security company with a focus on Privileged Access.

My first National Park visit was in 2008 (Haleakala). Then in 2009 my brothers and I did a backpacking trip to Great Smokey Mountains which solidified my passion for backpacking.

Later in 2009 the Ken Burns special “Americas Best Idea” was released and I said right then “I am going to see ALL of the National Parks“!! I started planning for a 2 week trip to Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks during the summer of 2010. It was one of the most memorable and formative experiences of my life – and I was hooked on National Parks and The Mountains.

Since then I have visited 62 of 63 National Parks across 180+ individual visits.

My favorite National Park is Yosemite. I spend more time there than any other place in the world.

My goal is to reach #63 sometime in the next year 2025-2026.

When I am in wild places I love to take photos and videos to share my experiences. I take mostly landscape photos and nightsky astrophotography – and wildlife whenever the opportunity presents itself.

I have a long history of sharing my adventures on my public Facebook page and within National Parks travel groups – however, in light of recent developments – I have decided to stop using Facebook and begin sharing my adventures here on mountainscalling.me.

I have also started using BlueSky (profile link) where I connect with like-minded folks and maintain several feeds dedicated to National Parks such as Yosemite, Yellowstone, Katmai, etc.

I intend to use this website to share “blog style” posts about what I am up to – as well as sharing tips about National Parks, Travel, VanLife, Technology and of course Photography. This website allows me to upload an “unlimited” amount of content so I will be uploading lots of high res images and videos within my posts.

I hope you enjoy! ~Feel free to reach out to my about anything.
